This Friday (01.15.2010) come on over to my ‘hood and find out who makes the best (insert Italian accent) meat-a-ball in NYC at the Meatball Slapdown. The event, being held at 100 Frost St., features five fine Brooklyn restaurants, including Frankie’s Spuntino, Bamonte’s, Roebling Tea Room, The Meat Hook and Roberta’s participating in the first-off of this planned annual event. For $75. at the door, or $50. via PayPal pre-order, you can indulge in the meaty, saucy goodness, complete with pasta and open bar. Don’t worry you’re gluttony and getting sloshed are all for a good cause, as all proceeds go to benefit Brooklyn Grange, a rooftop agricultural haven set for North Brooklyn.

Okko is an ultra high-end market in Istanbul, known for offering hard to find foods to their ultra-rich customers (I’m thinking the banana Quik and King Cobra 40’s I’ve been hunting for aren’t going to be on the shelves). Since the idea was to create word of mouth PR based on these gold and crystalized carts to promote the luxury of shopping at Okko, an idea that I am guessing is exactly what Specter wasn’t not going for with his gold cart. None-the-less, the next time I hit the local Key Food, I am going to feel someone shafted that I won’t be pushing around one of these blinged out bad boys.

Deep down most of us want to do our part and help others. It often seems like something that is too difficult to do, or a sacrifice that is too great. Knowing all of these things the charitable organization Robin Hood has created the “Stay In” event. It is simple make a donation to their cause of providing food to New Yorkers in need and sit at home with a discounted meal delivered via SeamlessWeb and a free movie via Amazon Video. Dig a little deeper in your pocket and you can add some free wine, or even Johnnie Walker Blue. Get involved here.

Perhaps the greatest invention of all time, or at least a quirky stocking stuffer, the disposable flask is being offered through Restoration Hardware. Having to deal with my expensive, monogrammed flasks being confiscated at concerts, sporting events, church, by police is now over! I can now feel confident with sneaking in my favorite beverage inside of these affordable alternatives to their metal brothers, without the worry of setting off metal detectors. I just don’t know how well the foil material can hold up to the power of sweet, sweet Jamesons. The Disposable Flask are sold in sets of 3 for $15.00 and are available at Restoration Hardware stores, or online.

Street artist Specter has been killing the street art scene in Brooklyn as of late. To expand his “discarded” project, a tribute to bottle-collectors, Specter stuck this life-sized and golden shopping cart in downtown Brooklyn.
