Peace-ing It Together

2.jpg

We all know the classic peace symbol. We have seen it on a tie-died shirt or painted on a VW bus, but do you know the history of this classic symbol? I didn’t, up until this morning, but BBC News is letting us know all about it. It should come as not surprise that the symbol was developed based on the need of it’s clients (protesters). Like any good logo design (such as the ones AS|D Labs designs – I’m so shameless) the symbol was built to represent the need of the protesters and contain the meaning of their fight. Hillary Endorses Obama

Many voters find themselves torn between the two potential Democratic nominees. Do you vote for Clinton or do you vote for Obama? Well I can’t tell you what to do, but thanks to the power of Axe body sprays, you can see who Hillary is voting for!

Hey, Hey, Hey…Goodbye

spitzerresigns.jpg

By now everyone knows the story; Elliot Spitzer, New York States shamed Governor has resigned, following his frequent patronage of a high end prostitution ring. I’m not going to waste my time ranting about the problems of government and the corruption of the special club who get to be our elected officials, or try to entice you with tales of sexual tryst, but I will bow my head in disgrace, not just because I have lived in NY my entire life, but because for every roach that you kill, 100 more escape without harm.

Doubling Dubai

dubai.jpg

Some countries realize the way to grow both literally and economically is through real development. While it sometimes feels like the U.S. is falling behind the times of the world due to corruption and bickering of our leadership, countries like Dubai are setting the trends (at least good ones like architecture, lets not get too political here). Check out the four page article of proposed architectural development in Dubai at designboom to see what the U.S. should be doing. Then think about the West Side Stadium, New Penn Station, Second Avenue Subway, Javits Center expansion, 7 Train expansion and all the other projects that go no where because of greed and corruption and plain foolishness (but hey we do get lots of condos). Remember, if you fear change, you will be here forever.

Bansky Gets Covered

banksytesco.jpg

I suppose with the success of Banksy in the gallery and eBay worlds it was just a matter of time before any of his street work started to be hoarded for misuse and sale of those who would have prosecuted anyone else for an act of vandalism. Following the $400k sale of a Banksy wall a few weeks ago, it comes as no shock that another wall was recently spotted having a protective plastic covering installed shortly after the Bankster laced the spot up. The only sad thing is this time the wall is on a Tesco store. If you’re not familiar with Tesco, they are the UK equivalent of Wal-Mart stomping out the Mom and Pop’s over the pond. It’s a sad day when a street vandal is making a political statement by painting a anti-consumerism piece on a mega-chain store and they will just make more money out of it. It’s ok Banks…we know what you were saying.

Is Your Child A Tagger?

isyourchildatagger.jpg

The city of Santa Ana (leave it to California) has a new outreach ad campaign asking parents if their child is a tagger. What I find humorous about this ad is the items that are listed. While yes, they can be used for acts of mischief, they too can be used for art. Many kids keep sketch books and carry art supplies around with them to create, not to vandalize anything. Many kids carry backpacks and where hooded sweatshirts for convenience, comfort and style, not to conceal or hide anything. Isn’t this ad campaign basically taking on the characteristics of racial-profiling, using age in place of race? Is this anymore socially acceptable just because those being affected can’t vote? Or maybe all those damn kids are just trouble makers? I don’t know.
